Old North Community

The Colborne Street Community project is run during the spare time of a handful of Colborne Street residents, and as described on the home page this web site was created specifically to address the issue of communications between the City of London and the residents of Colborne Street.

However, because communications is the purpose of this web site, we have agreed to post communications information that we feel is important to the Old North community at large, and this page will list information and upcoming events for Old North until such time as a community vehicle can be created for this purpose. Please understand that this web site and this page will list only events involving communications between the City and Old North, and in particular major infrastructure projects.

For those seeking to communicate with the Old North community, please contact Nancy Branscombe, as she is the ward councillor and maintains communications throughout the ward using various methods.

Events and information are listed below.

Doidge Park Re-Development Community Meeting

February 18, 2010

Time: 7pm - 9pm

Location: St. Michael's Public School, 926 Maitland Street [map]

In the summer of 2010, the City of London will be upgrading Doidge Park. Many of the park's amenities are aged and failing and require removal. The removal of these amenities gives the neighbourhood an opportunity to provide input to the City on how the park can be re-developed to meet the surrounding community's recreational needs.

The first step in the re-development process is to invite the public to a community meeting to gather their visions for the park, address any concerns they may have, and to present possible new park amenities.

Old North Traffic Calming Meeting

February 17, 2010

Time: 7pm - 9pm

Location: King's College, 266 Epworth Avenue [map]

Residents of Old North are invited to meet with the city councillor for ward 6, Nancy Branscombe, to learn about and discuss the proposed traffic calming plan for Old North, and to register their comments and/or concerns with Nancy.

The meeting will be held in the Student Lounge.

As noted on Nancy's web site, there will be "a presentation from City staff and consultants about the 2 year, OLD NORTH TRAFFIC CALMING STUDY that was presented to ETC and Council in September and recently passed. There will be information about public notices, maps, displays of the various traffic calming measures proposed and why this was done. There will be lots of time for Q and A."

Please note that a number of residents have expressed interest in remaining at King's after this meeting has concluded in order to discuss the formation and/or extension of an Old North Community Organization.
